Google Ads vs Facebook Ads: a 2026 cost comparison

The costs don't compare directly, but the difference matters

The most common mistake when comparing Google Ads with Facebook Ads on cost is to look at a single number, usually cost per click, and declare a winner. The two platforms charge differently, attract people at different moments of the decision, and produce results that are not equivalent at the click level.

This article doesn't tell you which platform is better for you. For the decision framework (intent vs discovery, business model, product type) we already have a separate guide: Facebook Ads vs Google Ads: how to choose the right platform. Here we look strictly at the money: what each channel costs on the Romanian market in 2026, which metric you should actually compare, and where your budget really goes.

How each platform charges: CPC vs CPM

The core difference starts with the billing model, and that's where all the confusion comes from when you compare costs.

Google Ads mainly charges you per click. You pay when someone who actively searched for something clicks your ad. Cost per click (CPC) is the metric you control directly through bidding.

Frequently asked questions

Google Ads vs Facebook Ads cost in Romania 2026: which is cheaper?

It depends on the objective, not on a single number. On cost per click, Facebook often looks cheaper (roughly 0.5-3 RON) than Google Search (1.5-8 RON), but the cheaper click comes from people who weren't searching for you. On cost per direct sale for eCommerce, Google Shopping and branded Search are usually cheaper. Facebook is cheaper at creating new demand, Google at capturing existing demand.

Why can't I directly compare cost per click between Google and Facebook?

Because the platforms charge differently. Google charges you for the click of someone actively searching, so you pay for intent. Facebook charges you for the impression, and cost per click results from the click-through rate, so you pay for attention. A Google click and a Facebook click aren't worth the same, even at the same paper price.

Which platform has the lowest cost per lead?

For services and B2B, Facebook often produces leads at a lower cost on volume, because it reaches broad audiences that aren't searching for you yet. Google brings more expensive clicks but higher-quality leads, because the person searched for exactly your service. Cost per lead looks lower on Facebook, but Google leads usually close at a higher rate.

How do I choose between the two if I'm looking at costs?

The cost comparison tells you where each channel excels, but the choice depends on your business model. For the full decision framework (intent vs discovery, product type, stage) read the separate guide on choosing the right platform. Cost tells you how much, the decision tells you which.

Why does total cost matter, not just media spend?

Because each channel also has a management and creative cost. Facebook constantly consumes new creative, since the algorithm needs many variants and creative fatigue sets in fast. Google Search needs less visual material but more structure work and negative terms. A channel with a cheap click but constant creative production can cost more in total than it appears.

At DAFE Digital we compare Google Ads and Facebook Ads costs on what matters: the cost of bringing in a profitable customer, not the cost of a click.

We analyze real performance on both channels and move budget toward the one that brings a sale at the lowest cost under your margin threshold. Spend becomes investment when it's read in terms of result, not cheap clicks.
